- Jacob Hegelund studied at K?benhavn University and took his matriculation on July 26, 1581. While studying for four years he lived with magister Mikkel M?ller, royal physician (livl?ge). He owed the latter for food and lodging, and after Jacob Hegelund's death Mikkel M?ller made a claim on the estate. However the widow (who would die herself within the year) and his brothers disowned the inherited debt.
He was employed at the Royal free-school on Sor? island from 1587-91. He was pastor (pr?st) for Ravsted (about 25 kilometers to the north-east of T?nder) from 1591; and parish priest (sognepr?st) for Store Darum (about 10 kilometers to the north-west of Ribe) from April 27, 1595. He had worked as an outdoor sign-writer; and was a musician. Married to Anna Pedersdatter (died 1600) who was his predecessor's widow.
