- Michel Hartwig's name is first seen in a record dating from 1612. An inscription on a preacher's pulpit (according to Laurids de Thurah's writings from 1756) states that he was mayor for R?nne from 1623 to 1645. Again in 1630 he is mentioned in a gift-letter in which Alderman Holger Madsen of R?nne, on behalf of his wife's sister, gives a farm in Olsker parish to the R?nne Church and Hospital.
Towards this end Holger Madsen: ". . . og hafuer wenlig ambedet Erlige og Welagte M?nd Michel Hartwig - Borgemester, J?rgen Franck, Claus Hermandsen, Morten Bohn - Raadm?nd, og Knud Jensen, Byeskrifuer, med mig til Witterlighed at besegle og vnderskrifue, Datum R?nne den 8de Martij Anno 1630."
Translated to english: ". . . and has kindly requested these Honest and Highly Esteemed Gentlemen: Mayor Michel Hartwig, Aldermen J?rgen Franck, Claus Hermansen, Morten Bohn, and Town-clerk Knud Jensen, to witness this transfer document with their signatures and seals. Dated R?nne the 8th of March in the year 1630."
The gift-letter was copied into the Landregistry in 1737, and its authenticity witnessed by Major-General Niels Madsen West, chief county-councillor and Commandant of Bornholm (from March 18, 1722 onwards).
In 1634 Michel Hartwig is noted as the owner of Almeg?rd, a proprietairg?rd (later combined with 26 Slg.) in Knudsker, which later went to his son Michel Hartwig. He is last mentioned in 1640 in an inscription on the enclosure around the christening-font in R?nne Church:

Translated to english:
"In the year 1640 under the reign of KING CHRISTIAN the Fourth, Count Holger Rosenkrantz of Glimminge Castle, Michel Hartwig and Jens S?rensen, mayors; J?rgen Francke and Peder Kofoed, councillors; and Christen Larsen, town-bailiff."
Michel Hartwig lived in R?nne, he also owned several farms: from circa 1634 until his death (circa 1645) he owned Store Almeg?rd in Knudsker parish, briefly in 1639 he owned Tophjem, 8 Slg. in Nyker parish, and from 1643 onward the abandoned farm B?kkeg?rd, 17 Slg. in Nyker parish.
Mention of daughter Michel Hartwig's daughter, Kirstine, in the probate for Hans Weideman's widow Karen, June 15, 1685, page 177b:
Anno 1685 dend 15 Juny, er efter loulig giorde tillysning holden rigistering, og vurdering, sampt skifte of deehling, efter sahl. Karne s. Hans Veidemans, som boede og d?de paa dend 47 Gaard i Jordebogs talled ligende i ?stermarie Sogn. . . Hans Persen i Nex?e paa sahl. Kirstene Carls arfuingers veigne fordrer 1 Mk. 4 Sk. som Anders Weideman betaller af en skref. . . .
