- Already before his marriage Hans Poulsen Lou was having personal and financial difficulties; this information is detailed in the ?ker parish registry entries made over the years concerning admonishments made to him and his wife Elisabeth/Lisabeth Larsdatter for their very public personal problems - see her "notes" for more.
On January 18, 1756 Corporal Hans Poulsen Lou was publicly, severly admonished from the pulpit for his continuously deplorable way of life, and constant drunkeness. A year and a half later on June 19, 1757 it was publically announced that Else Mortensdatter from Pedersker parish, while serving as harvest help at Poul Lou's farm, was impregnated by the son: Hans Poulsen Lou; he, however, denied this. In July of that year in Pedersker, Else Mortensdatter's illegitimate son was christened with the name Hans. The name of the father is not mentioned, but it is significant that she named her son Hans.

August 3, 1755: Dom. 10 p. Trinitatis, Public absolveret Karen S?rensdatter, som tjente hos Poul Lov for begangen lejermaal med Corporal Hans Poulsen Lov, medens hun var i tienesten.
January 18, 1756: Absolution Corporal Hans Lov for sit hidindtil f?rte foragtelige Levned og bestandige fylderier offentlig bestraffet af pr?dikestolen, da alle andre formaninger forhen intet kunde frugte hos ham.
June 19, 1757: Public absolveret: Else Mortensdatter, som var fra Pedersker Sogn og boer i sognet medens hun forleden Aar tiente som H?stpige hos Poul Lov, blev besvangret af s?nnen Hans Poulsen Lov, som svarer sig fri.

July 12, 1757: Eodem die (den 12 July) Else Mortensdatter sit u?gte drengebarn til daaben, kaldet Hans. Baaret af Elsebye Niels Johnsens. Faderne: Jens Hansen Piil, Jep Madsen tien Jens Madsen, Niels Mortensen, Anne Jens Hansen Piils stifdatter.
In November of 1757 Hans Lou's parents both died, and as the only boy to survive his parents Hans Lou received the inheritance rights to Laueg?rd, 34 Slg. in ?ker parish. As was customary the inheritance of the five sisters was left standing in the farm. However, when three of his brothers-in-law lost their homes and all belongings in the great fire in ?kirkeby on May 10, 1760, they were forced to claim their wives inheritance. Hans Lou was not able to pay them without mortgaging the farm. Finally he had to sell it in 1761 - to Captain Absalon Hansen Kofoed. The family then lived in R?nne for several years, after which they moved back to ?ker parish.
Contributing to these problems was great tragedy in the family life of Hans Lou and Lisabeth Larsdatter: of their five children only one survived childhood. The youngest son Poul is recorded as having died 40 days old of smallpox (kopper).
Hans Poulsen Low supposedly gambled and drank Laueg?rd away, slowly selling away parts of the land. His economic difficulties are further detailed in Elsa Lau's family pedigree book "Low-Lov-Lau II", pages 21-30.

When Elisabeth died she was living as "untentagskone" in the house of her daughter Sidsele Cathrine. Cause of death recorded as "old age and chest sickness" (alderdom og brystsvaghed).
