- Rudolph von Salis of Promontogno (and Bondo?), was married twice: first to Anna Barbara von Mysoni; second to Barbara von Stampa. He held the postion of chief magistrate (Podest?/Podestat) for Bergell district.
From "Denkw?rdigkeiten des Fortunat von Juvalta, 1567-1649", by G. Hitz, 1848:
Promontogno is a small village that perhaps once belonged to Castelmur and, most recently known by most, that the highly regarded Rudolf Salis lived there. His brothers were J.B. Salis, formerly a pastor in Zuoz, and Dusch Salis. The latter's sons are Friederich, living in Zuoz, and Benedict in Stampa. The children of the said Rudolf, from his first marriage were J.B. Salis, legal scholar, Friederich (father of Johannes Salis, Commiss?rs to Cl?ven), Rudolf and Anton (both deceased) and Caspar, citizen of Chur, all of whom had citizenship in Samaden because their mother was from there; his second marriage was with a Stampa, with whom he had two younger sons, Hector and Joshua.
Possibly further information on his second wife, Barbara von Stampa, can be found in the "Stammbaum der Familie Stampa" (1320-1873), 21 pages, pub. 1942.
Promontogno is located near Bondo, a former municipality in the district of Maloja in Graub?nden; it's now part of the municipality of Bregaglia; located near the Swiss-Italian border south of the Mera River in the Val Bregaglia (known as Bergell in German), in the Bergell sub-district of the Maloja district.
The Val Bregaglia (Italian) or Bergell Tal (German) is an alpine valley of Switzerland and Italy at the base of which runs the river Mera River (or Maira). It begins at the Maloja Pass (1815 m) which connects it to the Engadin (the valley of the river Inn, which is part of the Danube basin) and extends westwards to Chiavenna shortly after which the Mera joins with the Liro and turns south towards Lake Como. From Chiavenna to Maloja, a distance of 32 km, the valley rises 1482 m. Most of the valley falls within the Swiss district of Maloja in the canton of Graub?nden, the lower part within the Italian province of Sondrio. The valley includes the Swiss municipalities of Vicosoprano, Stampa, Bondo, Soglio and Castasegna; and the Italian municipalities of Villa di Chiavenna, Piuro, and Chiavenna. The Swiss part of the valley is inhabited by the descendants of Italian Protestants who came to Switzerland in the mid-16th century to avoid persecution by the Inquisition, and today about 75% of the population is Protestant. The local dialect is a variety of Lombard with similarities to neighboring dialects of Romansh.
