- Jochum T?nnesen M?ller is the founding-father of the Bornholmer Jochumsen-family. He was a sea-faring Merchant Mariner (Koffardikaptajn) from the Hanseatic-states who settled in Svaneke (see the parish register, page 174), nothing further is known of him other than his death in 1590.
His gravestone had been placed on the floor of the entry to Svaneke Church, and since the engraving was facing upwards it became so worn-out as to make deciphering it very difficult.
The inscription on the gravestone could be interpreted as follows:
"Herunder hviler Coffardi Capitain Jochum T?nnesen M?ller d?d Anno 1590."
(Hereunder rests Merchant Mariner Jochum T?nnesen M?ller, died 1590.)
Jochum T?nnesen M?ller is said to have been a multi-talented man with keen dark eyes and black hair. Musical talent is a traits common among his descendants.
