- Ebbe (Hvide) Skjalmsen was married first to Gyda, and second to Regnild. Ebbe died in 1151. Together with his brothers, he founded the Sor? Monastery. It is probable that he is the "Ebbo de Bastetorp" mentioned in a gift letter (gavebrev) from 1130 concerning the Bastrup Tower by Bastrup Lake.
He also had Bjernede Church built, the only round church on Sj?lland. Across the romanesque style entrance in latin is written: Ebbe Skjalmsen and his wife Ragnhild built here a church, which later their son Sune built of stone to honour God, Saint Maria and Saint Laurentius. This tells us that a wooden church, built in the beginning of the 1100s, was soon replaced by the round stone church that exists to this day. (Source: Dansk Adels?rbog, 1893, page 152.)
