According to Pierre Badrutt of Filisur the name means "little Peter" in Romansch. As a surname Badrutt - also written Badruott, Padrutt and Padruott - originated in the village of Pagig; which is located in the sub-district of Schanfigg, in the district of Plessur, which is part of the Canton of Graub?nden. It was sometimes written as "Pedrett" and "Pedretti" in the 14th Century. As a family surname it has its origins with the sons of Peter von Buwix of Pagig.
