- The 1683 probate for Dorothea, the wife of Christen Jensen, tells use that she was living at Peder Espersen's farm B?stedg?rd, 1 Vdg. R?, and that Peder acted as guardian for her son Esper and daughter Margrethe. I believe that Peder Espersen is closely related to Dorothea - possibly her brother? The guardian for Dorothea's eldest son Jens was "Mons Ibsen i Clemmedsker Sogn", this must be Mogens Ibsen (died 1711) of Ved Broen, 66 Slg. Klemensker. Mogens Ibsen was married to Marita Espersdatter.
Mogens Ibsen and Marita Espersdatter had a daughter named Martha/Marita Mogensdatter. The 1737 probate for Martha Mogensdatter's husband Hans Poulsen Hjorth, of Hjorteg?rd, 39 Slg. ?sterlars, tells us that Martha's close relatives acted as guardians for their children. The guardians were: Mads Pedersen of Allinge township, Hans Pedersen of Sandeg?rd, 27 Slg. ?ker parish, Lars Pedersen of B?dstedg?rd, 1 Vdg. R? parish. All three of these men are the sons of Peder Espersen (died 1731) of B?stedg?rd, 1 Vdg. R?. This information tells us for a fact that Marita Espersdatter and Peder Espersen are closely related - probably sister and brother.
The fact that both Peder Espersen and Mogens Ibsen acted as guardians for Dorothea and Christen Jensen's children suggests a close family relationship. Further, the names of Dorothea and Christen Jensen's sons point to Dorothea's patronymic being Espersdatter. Dorothea and Christen named their eldest son Jens - after Christen's father. Their second son was named Esper - after Dorothea's father?
So, if Dorothea, Marita and Peder Espersen are siblings, then who was their father Esper? It is notable that a previous owner of B?stedg?rd, 1 Vdg. R?, was an Esper Hansen. Also, the 1662 Jordebog lists an "Esber Esbersen" as the taxpayer for 1 Vdg. R?. Esper Hansen is known to have purchased B?stedg?rd in 1618 from his wife Kirsten J?rgensdatter's siblings. Esper Hansen and Kirsten J?rgensdatter are known to have had a son named J?rgen Espersen (died circa 1647), who owned Hulleg?rd, 1 Slg. R?, in 1622 - thus he must have been born before 1600. This means that Esper Hansen must have married Kirsten J?rgensdatter before 1600.
Dorothea's eldest daughter, Kirstine Christensdatter, was born circa 1655, so Dorothea must have been born between 1625 and 1640. Marita Espersdatter's youngest daughter, Marita/Martha, was born circa 1685 - which tells us that Marita Espersdatter must have been born between 1635 and 1655. Kirsten J?rgensdatter must have been born before 1580, and could not have born children past 1630. So it does not seem possible that Kirsten could be the mother of Marita and Peder - but Kirsten could be their grandmother. J?rgen Espersen is not known to have inherited B?stedg?rd. This leads to the question: why not? Possibly because he had a younger brother named Esper Espersen, who inherited their deceased father Esper Hansen's farm? The January 8, 1722 probate for Peder Espersen's second wife Seigne Madsdatter tells us that he had inherited B?stedg?rd, 1 Vdg. R?, from his father, refering to the year 1668.
