- From the research of Sigvard Mahler Dam:
Niels Gagge was born circa 1315, the son of Anders Gagge and Juliane Aagesdatter (of the Galen-family). His wife, Helene Strangesdatter, was born circa 1315, the daughter of Strange Jonsen and Cecilie (Nielsdatter?). Niels and Helene's other children are: Benedicte Gagge, Niels Gagge and Strange Gagge.
The family is named in "Kannik" (Canon) Niels Bunkeflo's "testamente" (will) of September 28, 1346: "fremdeles Niels Gagge min graa hest, som jeg plejede at ride paa, og en hoppe med dens f?l; fremdeles Niels Gagges hustru, fru Elene en hoppe med f?l, og deres datter Benedicte min kaabe og r?de h?tte foret med forskellige slags skind" (further to Niels Gagge my grey horse, which I was in the habit of riding upon, and a mare with its foal; further to Niels Gagge's wife, Madam Elene a mare with foal, and to their daughter Benedicte my cloak and red cowl lined with various kinds of hides).
There were four families that inherited from the estate of Niels Bunkeflo, namely: Jens Andersen (Skalder) married to Madam Bodil, and their daughter Lucie; Niels Gagge married to Madam Elene, and their daughter Benedicte; Mogens Eriksen, my in-law, married to Madam Thora, my niece; Aage Jonsen in Fj?lkinge, my in-law, married to Madam Katerine, my niece.
On March 10, 1347 these four families secured the tranferral of the deeds on the property in Lund, which they inherited from Niels Bunkeflo. Later that same year, on December 22nd Jens Andersen (Skalder) transferred the deeds on the property to Bos? Closter, acting as witness to his signature was Niels Gagge. Beneath this document sits Gagge's seal, and the shield display's an open mouthed animal's head, which one can see is either a wolf/dog or a bear.
Both Niels Gagge and his wife Helene died after 1347, and there are no further preserved documents bearing their names.
Coat of arms (V?ben): a Bear's Head with a Collar (et Bj?rnehoved med Halsb?nd). Alternatively, it may be the head of an "ulv" (wolf).
