- From the ?stermarie kirkebog:
December 29, 1689: 29 X'br, Anne Ridefogets begrafved, 60 aar gl.
Note: The above burial record for Anne suggests that she was married to a Chief Bailiff (Ridefoged) for Hammershus judicial district.
The ?ker-?kirkeby parish register's "Communicantes" entries provides us with the following information:
1656: 17 Febr. d?de Lars Winter Foget over Bornholm, ?. 50, begravet i R?nne.
1656: I dette aar blef Jens Larsen Risom Ridefoged over Bornholm.
1663: Den 23 Mart. d?de Nils Nilsen Ridefogeden udi R?nne.
1671: Communicantes, 29 Apr. d?de Hl. Lars Christensen i ?stermarie Sogn.
Laurids Jensen Wedle made an agreement with his successor so that Laurids would technical still be priest but the new man take over his duties. The agreement indicates a close relationship between the two, so it is likely the successor (who had successions rights) would have been given Laurids Jensen Wedle's daughter's hand in marriage. The agreement is mentioned in "Borringholms kr?nike", as well as the agreement Laurids Jensen Wedle made with next successor after Laurids Christensen died in 1671: "D. 29. April d?de v?rd. Hr. Laurs Christensen Borringholm, Pr?st her til ?stre Mari? Kirke, ?tat. 39 Aar; efter hannem kom Hr. S?ren Laursen Borringholm, og indtr?de udi Kaldet med samme Conditioner, som der tilforn var sluttet mellem Hr. Laurs Jensen Wedle og den afd?de Laurs Christensen." (Source: "Borringholms kr?nike", pp. 162 & 201).
In other places speculations have been made that S?ren Laursen Borringholm was son of Lars Olufsen Borringholm in R?nne-Knudsker, (Aage Dahl: Bornholms Pr?stehistorie: Bidrag til den Danske Gejstligheds Historie og Genealogi. S?rtryk af Bornholmske Samlinger, I. rk. bd. 38, R?nne, 1961, p. 95, it is based on Wiberg), in the series pastorum from 1738 he is called brother to Hans Larsen Klov, and thereby son of Laurs Jensen Wedle. It is also mentioned that the two brothers "differed in age" - this is at least incorrect because the two became students the same year. It is also strange that S?ren Laursen Borringholm is mentioned to be born in R?nne, but his supposed father Laurids Jensen Wedle was priest in ?stermarie and can't be found among the rectors in R?nne. However, it could be possible that S?ren was his father's successor in ?stermarie, but this series pastorum made by Christian Hansen Mossin in 1738 is so full of mistakes, for instance he names S?ren Laursen Borringholm as the son of Laurids Christensen Borringholm (son-in law to Laurids Wedle, married to his daughter) and also brother to "Hans Larsen Klov", if so then he would be both the son of Laurids Jensen Wedle and his daughter! However, the Series Pastorum does place him in that family. The series pastorum from Ibsker by Jacob Nielsen Prahl also states that Pastor Hans Larsen in Ibsker "var en Broder til Hr. S?fren Larsen i ?stermarie" (was a brother to Mr. S?ren Larsen in ?stermarie).
Independently two researchers has drawn the conclusion that: a) S?ren Laursen Borringholm is the son of Laurs S?rensen (c.1620-1666), known to be the clerk (byskriver) for R?nne township 1658-1666, and his wife Anne Ridefogeds; and b) that Birgitte Laursdatter is the daughter of Laurs S?rensen "byskriver af R?nne". Also, "Kures G?rdfortegnelser" states that both of S?ren's proven sisters, Birgitte and Maren, are daughters of Laurs S?rensen. Based on this evidence it seems likely that S?ren Laursen Borringholm is the son of Laurs S?rensen.
Possibly after Laurs S?rensen died in 1666 his widow married Laurids Christensen Borringholm (c.1632-1671)? It is interesting that Laurids fully took over the post of pastor in c.1665-66 and would certainly explain why S?ren Laursen Borringholm is said to be the son Laurids Christensen Borringholm - this would make S?ren his step-son rather than natural born son.
Two independent Series Pastorum name S?ren Laursen and Hans Laursen as brothers just twenty years after S?ren's death, which points to this probably being correct. I think they must both have been sons of Byskriver Laurs S?rensen. If they had any connection to Laurids Christensen Borringholm, I think that would have been step-sons - not sons - but it is uncertain if they did actually have any connection to him. The original Series Pastorum does not mention their father at all! It just says they were brothers, not who their parents were. S.V. Wiberg suggests that S?ren was the son of Laurids Christensen, but he did not know of the Series Pastorum. J.A. J?rgensen, who in his work "Series Pastorum" used the Series Pastorum as his main source, repeats the comment that they were brothers, and combined it with Wiberg's suggestion on Laurids Christensen being their father!
So actually nothing really links either of the two to Laurids Christensen. I think Aage Dahl concluded they were sons of Laurids Jensen Wedle because they were too old to be sons of Laurids Christensen - so he moved them back in time. It is probable that Anne Ridefogeds remarried in ?stermarie - and it may have been to Laurids Christensen, considering how often he is suggested to be the father of her sons. Also, Anne died in ?stermarie - not in R?nne, where her first husband was from.
About "Hans Larsen Klov" - I think he never went by the name Klov, it seems to be a mistake by S.V. Wiberg who calls him Klov instead of his wife's first husband (who is not called Klov in Wiberg), so he just put the Klov name with the wrong person. J.A. J?rgensen mentions in his work "Hans Larsen (not Klov)" and must have discovered the error. So it is highly likely that Hans Larsen/Lauridsen is the brother of S?ren Laursen Borringholm and thus the son of Byskriver Laurs S?rensen and Anne [Mouritsdatter?] Ridefogeds.
According to a chronicle written by Rasmus Pedersen Ravn (died 1677), the Deacon (Sognedegn) for ?ker-?kirkeby from 1653 until his death in 1677, a Lars Winter (c.1606-1656) was appointed as Ridefoged in 1651 by Joachim Gersdorff (1611-1661). Lars Winter was allowed to build a new house in the courtyard of Hammershus for himself and his family. As we see above ?ker-?kirkeby "Communicantes" entry Lars Winter died on the February 17, 1656 at 50 years of age, and was buried in R?nne. Jens Lauridsen Risom (died 1694) is known to have succeeded Lars Winter as Ridefoged in 1656 and later participated in the rebellion of 1658; he became the Landed Proprietor (Godsejer) of Nebbeg?rd near Fredericia in 1660; his wife, Sophie Lauridsdatter, died before him. Ridefoged Niels Nielsen, of R?nne, died on March 23, 1663. Augustus Dechner (March 30, 1656 - December 31, 1691) is known to have held the position between 1682 and 1690. Augustus Dechner was married on August 25, 1684 to Mette Lisabeth Maccab?us (October 17, 1660 - December 21, 1723).
The evidence, as I see it, suggests the following possible series of events:
1. Lars Winter was appointed Ridefoged circa 1651 by Joachim Gersdorff, and he died on the February 17, 1656 at 50 years of age, and was buried in R?nne.
2. His successor, Jens Lauridsen Risom (died 1694), was appointed Ridefoged in 1656. We know that Jens Risom became the Landed Proprietor (Godsejer) of Nebbeg?rd near Fredericia in 1660, so it is likely that he gave up the position of Ridefoged around this time and left Bornholm to go live on his estate in Jylland.
3. The next Ridefoged was Niels Nielsen, who died in R?nne on March 23, 1663.
4. Now there is a gap in the evidence: who was Ridefoged between 1663 and 1671? Possibly Laurs S?rensen, who was the Byskriver for R?nne between 1658 and 1666, became Ridefoged in 1663 after the death of Niels Nielsen?
5. Hans Christensen Storch was Ridefoged in 1671 until his death in 1679. He is the same person as the "Hans Christensen, Tolder i R?nne och Tingskrifver udj Vester och N?rre Herreder" who participated in the rebellion of 1658.
The occupation "Skriver" (Landstingskriver, Tingskriver, Amtskriver, etc.) seemed to go hand in hand with the position of Ridefoged. This is why I think that perhaps "Byskriver" Laurs S?rensen might have been promoted to the position of Ridefoged 1663-1666 - possibly he was also "Tingskriver" for the Vester Herred?
According to research done by Dr. M.K. Zahrtmann there was a Jens Bendtsen (died 1609) who was Ridefoged in 1598, and who later became Notary (Slotsskriver) for Hammershus fortress in 1604. Jens Bendtsen held Fogedagerhus (later known as Lille Vesterg?rd) in Vestermarie parish. The interesting bit is that his wife's name was "Petronelle Movridsdatter"! Possibly Anne's father (named Mourits Jensen?) was the son of Jens Bendtsen and Petronelle Mouritsdatter?!
